Expressing grave concern over the escalating violence against the Hindu community in neighboring Bangladesh, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday warned of potential security implications for the state. He noted that the deteriorating situation across the border, coupled with a decade-long rise in jihadist activities within Assam, presents a significant security challenge.
Interacting with journalists, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for heightened vigilance. "What is happening in Bangladesh is deeply worrying for us. As the incidents of attacks on the Hindus may have their effects in Assam, we will have to remain cautious and monitor the situation closely," he stated.
Dr. Sarma further pointed out that the worsening geopolitical climate in the neighborhood remains a persistent threat. He highlighted that evidence of growing extremist activities over the last 10 years suggests that Assam’s internal security is closely linked to regional stability. The Chief Minister added that the state's security apparatus is on high alert and will continue to track developments to prevent any spillover of communal or extremist tensions.
