In response to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s allegation that the mother of Kunki Choudhury — the young AJP candidate from the Central Guwahati constituency for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections — eats beef, AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi gave a strong reply to the media.

Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that what a candidate’s mother eats is her personal matter and a democratic right. He criticised Himanta Biswa Sarma, who holds an MBA from the London School of Economics, for not answering Kunki Choudhury’s questions on real issues like artificial flooding in Guwahati city, the failure to provide land pattas (ownership documents) to hill residents in Central Guwahati and the city, and traffic problems. Instead, the Chief Minister is trying to fool the public by making controversial personal comments about the candidate’s parents.

He further accused Himanta Biswa Sarma of having betrayal in his blood, saying the Chief Minister has backstabbed his own guru Bhrigu Kumar Phukan, Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, Hiteshwar Saikia, Tarun Gogoi, and even Ram Madhav (who was welcomed into BJP despite big corruption charges), as well as former state BJP president and current Central Guwahati MLA Siddhartha Bhattacharya. Lurinjyoti claimed that Himanta would even stab Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the back if he got the chance. He called Himanta a “traitor by blood and genes.”
